Role Description: Volunteer Director
Organisation:
Teach Learn Grow (TLG) addresses educational inequity by providing rural and remote primary school students with free, outcomes-targeted tutoring and mentoring run by volunteers. TLG runs a biannual Rural Program in which teams of university students are sent to rural schools across WA and NSW to provide one-on-one tutoring twice each year. Additionally, our high school Immersion Program offers volunteering and personal development experiences for younger volunteers through our Immersion partner schools.

Our Structure
The Teach Learn Grow Student Executive is responsible for ensuring the operations, financial sustainability, and management of the Rural Program and Immersion Program. The Student Executive is a tight-knit team of volunteers who work together to facilitate the growth of our organisation with the assistance of a small number of paid staff.
Role:
The Volunteer Director works under the general direction of the CEO, with the support of volunteer teams, to oversee the recruitment, training, and support of all volunteers and to promote a positive culture within the organisation through effective volunteer engagement. The Volunteer Director also works alongside other staff to support the High School Immersion Program and NSW Rural Program.
With the support of their teams, the Volunteer Director will oversee the recruitment and training of all Program and Student Executive volunteers, and maintain a positive culture within the Executive team.
Team Management:
The Volunteer Director is responsible for leading several teams of dedicated young volunteers who meet weekly to plan and implement our programs:
The Recruitment Team;
the Volunteer Experience Team, and;
the NSW Team.
Main responsibilities:
Manage and support volunteers
Implement strategic objectives under the guidance of the CEO
Maintain accurate volunteer records and prepare twice yearly program reports for all relevant stakeholders
Engaging with volunteers at all levels and helping to establish a positive team culture
Liaise with the CEO on matters of volunteer engagement
Implement relevant policies such as the Code of Conduct and monitor for compliance
Desirable Qualities
A knowledge of, and passion for, TLG’s vision and mission
Motivation and determination to achieve outcomes and deliverables
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a diverse range of people and effectively motivate and manage volunteer teams
The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
Ability to multitask, be highly organised, and be able to prioritise duties
Ability to build relationships and establish personal credibility to effectively manage volunteers
Ability to solve problems using innovative and evidence-based solutions
Desirable Experience
Hold or be working towards a tertiary level qualification in a relevant discipline, and/or demonstrated work experience managing operations
Demonstrated experience in a busy and complex organisation
Demonstrated experience successfully leading a team
Demonstrated experience working or volunteering in a not-for-profit
Employment conditions:
Part-time position (approximately 2 days per week) with flexible working arrangements and the expectation of occasional evening and weekend work. Must be available to work on Tuesdays and Thursdays at our office in Victoria Park, WA.
The initial contract will be for a period of 12 months with the possibility of extension.
Remuneration will equate to approximately $35-$40 per hour, depending on the successful applicant’s experience and qualifications.

This role will commence in January 2026. There is flexibility in the start date for successful candidates.
