Since 2011, Teach Learn Grow (TLG) has worked to improve educational outcomes for students experiencing disadvantage in rural and remote Australian communities. Through one-on-one tutoring and mentoring, TLG aims to empower children to reach their full potential. Recognised for its impactful work, TLG was awarded the 2021 Community Volunteer Organisation of the Year. About the role
The CFO plays a key strategic and operational role in ensuring TLG's financial sustainability. In this senior voluntary role, the CFO oversees the organisation's financial integrity, including grants, budgeting, and compliance, while working closely with the CEO and Board. The CFO ensures TLG operates efficiently and ethically, empowering impactful education initiatives across regional and disadvantaged communities.
JOB TYPE: Volunteer position (2-6 hours per week)
LOCATION: Work from home (BYO device) and management meetings
SUPERVISOR/MANAGER: Chief Executive Officer
DIRECT REPORTS: Volunteer Finance team, Bookkeeper
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Financial Leadership:
Develop and manage TLG's financial strategy, supporting long-term sustainability and impact
Advise the Board and CEO on financial planning, risks, and opportunities
Oversee financial governance and compliance with regulatory obligations
Portfolio Management:
Support grant acquittal and financial reporting to funders and stakeholders
Oversee alignment of financial activity with funding requirements
Operational Finance Management:
Oversee payroll, accounts management, and budget development
Manage the preparation and presentation of financial reports to the Board
Collaborate with the bookkeeper to ensure timely reconciliations, BAS preparation, and expense tracking
Collaboration and Leadership:
Contribute to TLG's strategic direction as part of the leadership team
Supervise and support the bookkeeper and volunteer finance team
Reporting and Compliance:
Maintain accurate records for audits, funding agreements, and regulatory reporting
Deliver timely, transparent financial updates to the Board, CEO, and stakeholders
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Qualifications:
Relevant qualifications or experience in finance, accounting, or business management
A recent WA Police Clearance is required
Experience:
Proven experience in financial management or accounting (3+ years preferred)
Understanding of grant management is an asset
Experience with Xero or other accounting software is favourable
Experience in the not-for-profit or community sector is desirable
Skills:
Strong strategic and operational financial planning capabilities
Excellent communication and reporting skills
Proficient in financial software and Google Workspace
Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
Adaptability in a small, fast-moving team environment
