More than a Teacher: The lasting impact of an educator.

On October 5th, the world celebrates World Teachers' Day. In Australia, it is celebrated on 30th of October to align with the school calendar. This year is particularly notable because it marks the 60th anniversary of the Recommendation on the Status of Teachers. The global theme is "Standing with Teachers: 60 Years of Protecting the Profession, Advancing its Status and Shaping Our Futures."

Celebrating teachers matters because a teacher is more than someone who educates future generations. A great teacher encourages students to explore their interests, listens to their problems, pushes them to improve, and, most importantly, believes in them.

That influence doesn't stop when the lesson ends or the bell rings. It might be as simple as noticing when a student is struggling, offering support when things get hard, or encouraging someone to try again. Teachers can help students recognize strengths they didn't know they had and see possibilities they hadn't imagined.

Their impact may not be immediately apparent, but their encouragement and guidance can stay with a student long after school ends.

A trip down memory lane.

As we celebrate World Teachers' Day, we invite you to take a little trip down memory lane with Teach Learn Grow. Watch our video celebrating the teachers who made a difference in our lives and bringing back some fond memories from our own school days.

TLG’s mission: Mentoring beyond the classroom.

The same connection and encouragement that make teachers so impactful are at the heart of our work at Teach Learn Grow. Mentoring is central to our one-week Rural Programs, where students work with tutors who listen, encourage, and help them discover their own potential. For students in rural communities, who may have fewer opportunities to connect with tutors and role models, that support can be especially meaningful.

Our programs focus on different areas, from building STEAM skills through hands on activities to providing personalized mathematics support, but the principles remain the same: building trust, setting goals, developing confidence, and celebrating progress.

It's a reminder that education isn't only about delivering a lesson or teaching a skill. Sometimes, it's about showing up for a student, taking the time to listen, and helping them see what they are capable of.

Celebrating the people in our corner.

That is what we want to celebrate this World Teachers' Day: not only teachers, but the wider network of people who support and encourage the next generation. Whether it's a teacher offering encouragement, a tutor helping a student work through a challenge, or an adult simply taking the time to listen, these moments can have a lasting impact.

So, we'd love to ask: Who was your favorite teacher, and what made them so memorable? Was a teacher part of one of your favorite moments from school? What did they do that has stayed with you?

Help us create lasting memories and brighter futures.

Every child deserves someone who believes in them, encourages them and helps them discover their potential.

At Teach Learn Grow, we bring mentors into rural communities to support students, build confidence and inspire a love of learning.

This World Teachers' Day, help us continue making a difference. Your donation can help bring more mentors, opportunities, and meaningful learning experiences to students in rural Australia.
